Tips on Going Green


Here you'll find some great and simple tips on going Green!
 
  • Recycle! You can recycle everything from aluminum cans to construction materials
  • Buy Recycled! Look for products made from post-consumer materials.
  • Replace your burned out incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs). According to the EPA, CFL's use 2/3 less energy and lasts 10 times as long as an incandescent bulb. I know some complain they're not as bright - but you definitely get used to it!
  • Use cloth, reusable bags not PLASTIC when shopping.
  • If you do use plastic bags, remember to recycle them. There are thousands of places across the country that accept plastic bags.
  • Refill or Recycle your ink cartridges.
  • Turn off the water faucet while brushing your teeth.
  • Use your dishwasher and washing machine only when they're full.
  • Compost food scraps instead of throwing them in the trash.
  • In the Summer, raise the thermostat 2 degrees. In the Winter, lower your thermostat by 2 degrees.
  • Use a ceiling fan to cool off a room. It consumes as little energy as a 60-watt bulb!
  • Install a programmable thermostat.
  • Carpool, ride your bike or use public transportation.
  • Keep your tires inflated to the proper air pressure level. This will extend the life of your tires and give you extra gas mileage.
  • If you're looking for a new vehicle, consider a hybrid.
  • Pay your bills online -save paper & postage!
  • Don't print out emails unless completely necessary - save as a file on your computer instead.
  • Dry your clothes on the line instead of the dryer.
  • Use cloth napkins and towels instead of paper.
  • Use cloth diapers and wipes instead of disposables.
